Abstract
Michael Oravitz applies Caplin's ideas to teaching melodic dictation, an area of skill development whose waters are fraught with navigational obstacles. Oravitz presents a systematic and user-friendly approach that encourages students to hear more-extensive musical units through sentence structures taken from the repertoire.
