About Institutional Repositories

Students, faculty, staff, and affiliates of Lipscomb University can have their works preserved, collected, and showcased to a global audience through The Carolyn Wilson Digital Collections, an institutional repository (IR). Works in the repository are openly accessible to the public in order to make these works (both research and creative) available to the scholarly community. The Carolyn Wilson Digital Collections are dedicated to improving the worldwide impact of Lipscomb University.

Carolyn Wilson

Carolyn Wilson devoted her career in library science to creating the services and resources needed in Lipscomb’s Beaman Library for 34 years (1980 – 2014), becoming the Library Director in 1999. Under Wilson’s leadership, the library engaged in significant reorganization and implemented a state-of-the-art online catalog, allowing patrons access to their records and account with a new library system. One of her greatest contributions to Lipscomb was her hard work to strengthen the reputation of Beaman Library and Lipscomb in the Nashville and larger national book community.

Upon her retirement, Provost W. Craig Bledsoe said, “Carolyn supported faculty and student library needs and promoted the library as the heart of the learning experience at Lipscomb University. She managed to run the largest classroom on campus, Beaman Library, with knowledge, skill, grace, tireless enthusiasm, and a heart for students and faculty.” Because of this, Lipscomb has chosen to honor her memory by making the digital collections her namesake.
