Description
H. Leo Boles was the sixth and ninth president of the school (now Lipscomb University). He attended Burritt College, Nashville Bible School, Vanderbilt University, and the Southern School of Divinity. Boles accomplished many milestones during both of his tenures as president. They include the first regular salary for faculty (1916), the Alumni Association created (1916), the school renamed David Lipscomb College (1918), the first school publication The Babbler published (1924), the first college band created, first interscholastic basketball and baseball, and the first May Day celebration. The school also became a member of the American Association of Junior Colleges during this time.
